Thousand Cranes Pandemic Community Art Project E-Card 同心積極參與 共願疫情放緩電子聖誕賀卡

Markham Wesley Centre organized Thousand Cranes Pandemic Community Art project on Wednesday, December 16 from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Zoom.  The project idea was originated from our member, May Chan, Arts and Crafts instructor.  May has created a paper crane sculpture consisting of 222 paper cranes.  The project aims to unite people in the GTA community during pandemic in completing 1,000 cranes together.  During this one-hour workshop, May demonstrated to participants of all ages how to fold origami cranes.  We were joined together to fold cranes and make wishes of good health, wellness and appreciation to everyone in the community.  It is a reminder that we are still all connected regardless of the situation and it is only by supporting and appreciating each other that we will find solutions.

We greatly appreciate the joint effort of all project participants in making many beautiful cranes.  We had collected their crane photos and created an electronic Christmas card to bring forth peace and love to the people in the community especially the seniors living in senior homes and apartments.

萬民衛斯理社區服務中心​​於12月16日（星期三）下午4:30至5:30在Zoom上舉行「齊摺千鶴抗新冠」社區藝術項目。該項目最初由中心會員，美術和手工導師May Chan構思與發起。 May創造了一個由222隻紙鶴組成的紙鶴雕塑。在新冠病毒疫情期間，我們希望透過這個活動, 團結大多倫多社區中的人士一起摺1000隻紙鶴。在這個一小時的工作坊中，May向參加者示範如何摺紙鶴。我們團結在一起，一起摺紙鶴，彼此祝願和感謝。這提醒我們，無論情況如何，我們仍然保持聯繫，只有相互支持和欣賞，我們才能發現解決方案。

Markham Wesley Centre facility closure in response to COVID-19

Closure effective March 14 at 6 p.m. until further notice

Markham Wesley Centre (MWC) will close effective March 14 at 6 p.m. until further notice in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All recreation and interest group programs, drop-ins, services, events and facility rentals are cancelled.

The health and well-being of our community members is our top priority.  Although we have been advised that the risk of contracting COVID-19 is low, we are taking preventive measures to protect our community members and reduce the spread of the virus.

Program policy changes and refunds:

MWC’s program has relaxed some policies until further notice to allow participants more flexibility in making the best decision possible for themselves, their family or their organization.

• Refunds for cancelled program dates will be automatically issued to all programs participants without penalty.
• The Markham Wesley Centre will offer refunds to ticket buyers for all events between now and until further notice. All rental clients scheduled between now and until further notice will also be refunded without penalty.
• Facility rental agreements will be amended to reflect the dates affected by the facility closures and/or credits placed on accounts.

We understand the closures of our center will impact many members, families and facility users, but we believe health and safety of our community takes precedence.  We will continue monitoring any updates of the COVID-19 pandemic and adjust our operations according to the recommendations of health authorities.

MWC has implemented the following additional actions to help reduce the spread of COVID-19:

• Provided touchless hand sanitizer and soap dispensers dispensers in facility.
• Increased cleaning and disinfecting of high-touch areas in facilities.
• Posted COVID-19 information in high traffic areas and electronic communications.
• Mandatory self-screening for signs of illness or communicable disease for all users and visitors.

萬民衛斯理社區服務中心（MWC）因應對新型冠狀病毒大流行，於3月14日下午6時起暫時關閉直至另行通知。所有活動課程、服務和場地租賃均被取消。 

社區的健康和福祉是我們的首要任務。儘管我們被告知感染新型冠狀病毒的風險很低，但我們仍選擇採取預防措施來保護我們社區內每一位成員並減少病毒的傳播。 

課程活動政策更改和退款： 

萬民衛斯理社區服務中心（MWC）將放寬一些政策，讓參與者能夠更加靈活地為自己及家人做出最佳決策，直到另行通知為止： 

-   所有受影響之課程參與者，將自動獲得關閉期間之退款，本會將不收取任何罰款。

MWC Reopening Plan Updates

Updates on Feb 14, 1:30pm

The province annouced it is easing more public health measures on February 17 at 12:01am.

We are currently reviewing how the annoucement impacts our programs and services we deliver.  Please be patient and more information will be shared at a later time.

Effective February 17, 2022

Ontario will further ease public health measures, including, but not limited to:

• Increasing social gathering limits to 50 people indoors and 100 people outdoors
• Increasing organized public event limits to 50 people indoors, with no limit outdoors
• Removing capacity limits in the following indoor public settings where proof of vaccination is required, including but not limited to:
  • Restaurants, bars and other food or drink establishments without dance facilities
  • Non-spectator areas of sports and recreational fitness facilities, including gyms
  • Cinemas
  • Meeting and event spaces, including conference centres or convention centres
  • Casinos, bingo halls and other gaming establishments
  • Indoor areas of settings that choose to opt-in to proof of vaccination requirements.
• Allowing 50 per cent of the usual seating capacity at sports arenas
• Allowing 50 percent of the usual seating capacity for concert venues and theatres
• Increasing indoor capacity limits to 25 per cent in the remaining higher-risk settings where proof of vaccination is required, including nightclubs, restaurants where there is dancing, as well as bathhouses and sex clubs
• Increasing capacity limits for indoor weddings, funerals or religious services, rites, or ceremonies to the number of people who can maintain two metres physical distance. Capacity limits are removed if the location opts-in to use proof of vaccination or if the service, rite, or ceremony is occurring outdoors.

Capacity limits in other indoor public settings, such as grocery stores, pharmacies, retail and shopping malls, will be maintained at, or increased to, the number of people who can maintain two metres physical distance.

The Ontario government annouced three-step plan to gradually lift COVID-19 restrictions.

No earlier than Jan 31, 2022

• 50% capacity for most indoor public settings (e.g. retail, restaurants, casinos, cinemas), with proof of vaccination required in select settings.
• 50% capacity or 500 people, whichever is less, for spectator capacity in areas of facilities used for sports and recreational fitness activities (e.g. sporting events), concert venues and theatres.
• No restriction on hours of operation for restaurants, bars, or other food or drink establishments or sale/service of liquor.
• Social gathering limited to 10 indoor/25 outdoor.
• 50% capacity for indoor religious services, rites, or ceremonies.  Outdoor limited to the # of people that can maintain 2M physical distance.
• Additional protective measures.

No earlier than Feb 21, 2022

• 100% capacity for indoor public settings (e.g. restaurants, casinos, cinemas) where proof of vaccination is required.
• Capacity in other indoor public seetings is the # of people that can maintain 2M physical distance.
• 50% spectator capacity in areas of facilities used for sports and recreational fitness activities (e.g. sport events), concert venues and theatres.
• 25% capacity for higher risk settings such as food and drink establishments with dance facilities (including wedding receptions in meeting or event spaces where there is dancing), bathhouses, and sex clubs.
• Social gathering limited to 25 indoor/100 outdoor.
• Indoor regligious services, rites, or ceremonies limited to the # that can maintain 2M physical distance (no limit if proof of vaccination required).
• Additional protective measures.

No earlier than Mar 14, 2022

• 100% capacity for indoor public settings.  Proof of vaccinaiton continues to be required in existing settings.
• Social gatherings limited to 50 indoor (no limit for outdoor).
• No limit on religious services, rites, or ceremonies.
• Additional protective measures.

Updates on January 3, 2:30pm

The Ontario government announced temporarily moving into Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen with modifications that take into account the province’s successful vaccination efforts.

As of January 5, 2022 at 12:01 a.m. the following measures will be in place for at least 21 days (until January 27) subject to trends in public health and our health system.

Social gatherings are permitted under the following conditions:

• indoor gatherings limited to five people or fewer
• outdoor gatherings limited to 10 people or fewer

Sports and recreational fitness activities

Indoor areas of facilities used for sports and recreational fitness activities, including gyms, sporting events and personal training must operate under the following conditions:

• indoor closed with limited exceptions and conditions (such as athletes training for Olympics and Paralympics, select professional and elite amateur sport leagues who will operate via an approved framework from the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health and persons with disabilities for physical therapy)
• outdoor open with spectators limited to 50 per cent capacity and other restrictions
• proof of vaccination required for facilities with a usual capacity of 20,000 or more people

Recreational amenities must operate under the following conditions:

• indoor recreational amenities closed
• outdoor recreational amenities open

Businesses that provide in-person teaching or instruction (such as cooking classes, music classes) must operate under the following conditions:

• indoor areas closed, except for organizations that provide health and safety training (with conditions)
• outdoor areas open with restrictions in place, such as physical distancing

Meeting and event spaces, including conference centres and convention centres must operate under the following conditions:

• indoor areas closed with exceptions, such as child care, court and government services, social services, health services, collective bargaining and mental health/addiction services up to 10 people, in-person exams for limited fields/occupations up to 50 people
• outdoor areas open with restrictions including, but not limited to:

• no more than 10 people per table
• patrons must remain seated
• no dancing or singing
• active screening
• limited hours for the sale, service and consumption of liquor

The Ontario government announced increased measures to protect against the Omicron variant. 

On December 17, the Provincial Government has announced increased measure to protect against the Omicron variant.  Effective Sunday, December 19, 2021 at 12:01am, the following public health measures will apply:

• The maximum number of permitted for social gatherings will be reduced to 10 persons indoors and 25 persons outdoors.
• A 50% capacity limit will be in effect for all indoor venues and settings.  And MWC falls under the (1) Non-spectator areas of facilities used for sports and recreational fitness activities (e.g. gyms) and (2) Indoor recreational amenities.
• The consumption of food and drink will be prohibited at sporting events, concert venues, theatres and cinemas, casinos, bingo halls and other gaming establishments, horse racing tracks, car racing tracks and other similar venues to ensure patrons remain masked at all times.
• The number of patrons permitted to sit at a table will be limited to 10 people and patrons will be required to remain seated in restaurants, bars and other food or drink establishments, meeting and event spaces and strip clubs; no dancing will be permitted except by workers or performers.
• Bars and restaurants, meeting and event spaces and strip clubs will be required to close by 11 p.m.; takeout and delivery will be permitted beyond 11 p.m.
• The sale of alcohol will be restricted after 10 p.m. and consumption of alcohol in businesses or settings after 11 p.m.

省府於12月17日宣佈由於面對Omicron變種病毒的威脅，自 2021年12月18日凌晨12:01 起生效，加強疫情應對措施：

• 室內社交限聚人數至10人，室外減至25人。
• 特定場所只能開放50%容量，萬民衛斯理社區服務中心(MWC)是屬於用於體育和康樂健身活動的非觀賞區設施(如健身房)及室內娛樂設施的場所之一。

Updates on July 30, 12:00 noon.

The City of Markham is in Step 3 of the provincial roadmap to reopen plan. Step 3 permits outdoor social gatherings and organized public events with up to 100 people with some exceptions, and indoor social gatherings and organized public events with up to 25 people. Patrons are reminded that all public health measures remain in effect, which means you should continue to maintain a minimum two-metre or six-feet distance (except people from your same household) and wear face covering when physical distancing cannot be maintained.

Currently centre has modified business hours from Monday to Friday 10:00am - 3:00pm, with extended hours for facility rentals and particular in-person programs/classes.

We do not require patrons to provide proof of vaccination to gain access to our facility, but all patrons and visitors must sign-in and provide contact tracing information when entering the facility. We will continue to follow direction from the Province of Ontario and York Region Public Health. $150,000 OTF Grant Gives Community Centre a New Community Kitchen

Markham Wesley Centre (MWC) is very grateful for the $150,000 grant from Ontario Trillium Foundation.  There are many people who would be benefited from the renovation of the Community Centre’s kitchen.  MWC has been serving the community for over 6 years.  The Centre has been providing recreational and community programs to over 2, 000 members and the public.  The newly renovated kitchen with professional equipment will enable MWC to provide more community programs and services to the community for all walks of life in the Greater Toronto Area. 

We have planned to welcome members from our community, Ontario Trillium Foundation review team member and local politicians to our open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the new kitchen.  Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, we are not able to organize such open house for the general public. 

We look forward to invite all our guests and members from our community to attend the opening of our new kitchen once the lockdown has been lifted.

安大略延齡草基金會撥款資助項目完成

安大略延齡草基金會的150,000加元撥款資助為萬民衛斯理社區服務中心提供一個新的社區廚房

萬民衛斯理社區服務中心非常感謝安大略延齡草基金會提供的150,000加元撥款資助。社區中心廚房的裝修將使更多人受惠。萬民衛斯理社區服務中心已經為社區服務了6年多。該中心一直為2,000多名會員和公眾提供各類文娛康樂和社區活動。新近裝修的廚房設有專業設備，將使中心能夠在大多倫多地區為社區各個階層提供更多社區活動和服務。

我們計劃歡迎大眾、安大略延齡草基金會審查小組成員及三級政府官員參加開放日和剪彩儀式，以慶祝新廚房的開放。但鑑於新冠病毒疫情 ，我們無法為公眾舉辦開放日。待疫情封鎖解除後，我們期待邀請所有嘉賓和公眾蒞臨參觀我們的新廚房。
